Organized by Black Women's Blueprint, the conference celebrated the life and work of Dr. Beverly Guy Sheftall and the 20th anniversary of her publication Words of Fire: An Anthology of African-American Feminist Thought. The event also marks the first anniversary of the formation of the Black Women’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Sexual Assault. Fielding Trustee Dr. Leonard Haynes is no ordinary educator. He was Louisiana’s first black assistant superintendent for elementary and secondary education. When he retired from the U.S. Department of Education last year after almost 30 years of public service, he received letters of congratulation from presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and George H.W. Bush.
